Nicolas Colsaerts shines at Volvo China Open – European Tour
Three rounds of the Volvo China Open have been finally completed. The event continues to produce some excellent scores. It has been a thrilling three days as players have enjoyed the playing conditions. After the third round, Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium
is the outright leader on the crowded leader board.
The Belgian started his third round from behind as he was tied for the second spot on the leader board. From the start, he looked to dominate the course. Having an eagle on the very first hole, he did not look back after that. From thereon, he made birdies
and just a single bogey. The only lost stroke came on the par-3, 5th where his tee shot was stuck in the greenside bunker.
The 28-year-old was hitting the ball long off the tee and was in good momentum with his swing. He has been playing well since the past three days. On a few holes, he had long drives off the tee. Colsaerts is known for his big hitting off the tee and fairways.
He made full use of this.
Colsaerts is one shot clear of the charging players on the leader board. He has been playing promising golf during the three rounds and only has two bogeys through 54 holes. This will be his maiden victory playing on the European Tour.
At the age of 18, Colsaerts qualified through the European Tour Qualifying stage and started playing on this tour. He does not have much success playing as he found the going a bit tough. Initially, it was a titanic move for the player to compete against
Europe’s best.
Now, this is a great opportunity for him, who leads this four-day championship. Last year, he was the longest hitter on European Tour. Alvaro Quiros is the second player in the longest driving distance.
The Belgian Colsaerts had a three-day score of 18-under par, 198. This is such an impressive score by the 28-year-old professional.
Once again on the third day, the 19-year-old Chang-won Han took charge on the scoreboard. He carded a seven-under par, 65 which was the lowest round on the third day. Chan was simply amazing with his copy book approach shots to the green.
Han putted five birdies on the front-nine holes. The teenager had a total of seven birdies on his scorecard and did not make any bogey. The youngster once again looked impressive with his putting stroke on the greens. Although he did miss a few birdie putts,
but he certainly looks in great shape.
The 19-year-old Han will be playing alongside the leader on the final round. He will certainly pose a threat to the leader as he looks in excellent form. Han came in this tournament being a rookie.
Han after his round said, “I played perfectly today – some good shots and good putts. I took confidence from my putting today. When I missed shots I made the putts that helped my round.”
Han is just one shot behind the leader.
Two players occupy the third spot after the third round ended. Irishman Peter Lawrie and Gregory Havret of France, both are at 16-under par, 200. They are just two behind the leader and will certainly challenge the leader on the final day.
Lawrie was composed with his game on the third day. Although he had six birdies, but he was disappointed with the two bogeys he made. The veteran had a third day score of four-under par, 68 which was a good one for him.
The Frenchman Havret looked in good shape. He managed to put up a round of four-under par, 68. He was bogey-free for the round and made four birdies.
The final day of the championship will commence tomorrow. All these notable players will be eyeying for the championship trophy and the lucrative cheque.
