Nicolas Colsaerts performing well in the KLM Open, ahead of the Ryder Cup
In a bid to prepare for the Ryder Cup this month, Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium is heading into the right direction. He followed his opening round 70, with a stunning five-under par 65 on day two of the KLM Open, on September 7, 2012.
Colsaerts is paired with the Ryder Cup team captain José María Olazábal and his team-mate Martin Kaymer for the opening two rounds, at the Hilversumsche Golf Club.
Therefore, he was really happy to make his leader feel relaxed, prior to heading for the biennial event, at the Medinah Country Club.
He now shares the seventh spot on the leaderboard, six strokes behind the leader Graeme Storm, who recorded an 11-under par two-round score.
Scott Jamieson, Peter Hanson and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño tied for the second position, after  posting an eight-under par score after two rounds.
Shiv Kapoor and Pablo Larrazábal tied for the fifth spot on the leaderboard, after recording scores of a six-under par.
Colsaerts seemed happy with his overall performance, entering the final two rounds on the weekend.
“This is a place that has always been pretty kind to me; I like the course and on top of everything else it puts me in a cool place of mind,” he said. “I played really good - I drove the ball fantastically. I had a lot of short irons into the greens and
I putted a lot better than yesterday. Everything just came together”.
He also admitted that he talked to Kaymer about the Ryder Cup, several times during the first two rounds.
“We have never played together. This is the first time,” he explained. “We just chatted about how good the timing is to play together and see each other’s game. It is funny, as soon as you see someone involved there is this little connection”.
In the meantime, Kaymer was disappointed with his performance on day two, which led him to sign his scorecard with a one-over par 71.
According to him, he played poorly on the greens and he did not have much control over his putter throughout the day.
