Nicolas Colsaerts plans to remain calm when he tees off in the Ryder Cup
Other than Nicolas Colsaerts, each of the European Ryder Cup team members has participated in the biennial event in the past.
Therefore, the Belgian must have been feeling the pressure of making his debut in one of the most followed tournaments in the world of golf.
The 29-year-old became the only player from Belgium to make it to the Ryder Cup for the first time in the history of the event.
The European team captain Jose Maria Olazabal used one of his two wildcard picks to add Colsaerts to his squad.
Talking to the reporters on Wednesday, Colsaerts said that getting picked by Olazabal was the happiest moment of his life.
"It's really special. It's far more intense already of anything I could think of," Colsaerts said. "I've been dreaming of playing in this for probably 20 years. It's far more bigger than everything I could imagine”.
According to the two-time European Tour winner, he will try to remain calm throughout the tournament, despite making his first appearance in the event.
He also told that he always idolized Fred Couples in his early professional career. According to him, he always watched Couples playing on the course without taking any pressure.
Therefore, the Belgian will try to follow the footsteps of a player, who will be serving as the assistant captain for the US team’s leader, Davis Love III.
"There was only one guy that I really liked when I was young. It was Fred Couples," Colsaerts said.
"So funny enough, he is an assistant captain this week. Freddie just always seemed to be a cool cat, and the way he walks and the way he played. I always loved the laziness about him. Funny enough, I think I walk kind of the same way”.
Colsaerts is currently enjoying the best of his form on the European Tour. Other than his victory in the 2012 Volvo World Match Play Championship, he has played a decent game throughout the season so far.
Recently, he recorded back-to-back top-10 finishes in the last two European Tour events that he played. Therefore, he can give a tough time to his rivals, when he tees off at the Medinah Country Club on Friday, September 28, 2012.
