Nicolas Colsaerts ready for the Thailand Golf Championship challenge
Nicolas Colsaerts, the longest hitter on the European Tour, is set to feature in next week’s Thailand Golf Championship, slated to start from December 6 to 9, 2012.
The tournament will be staged at the Amata Spring Country Club, Bangkok, and is sanctioned by the Asian Tour.
Colsaerts is currently enjoying a great run of form this season, having won the Volvo World Matchplay Championship and recorded 10 top-10 finishes on the European Tour.
He also came close to victory at the Volvo China Open. However, he was left to rue after Branden Grace imposed the defeat on him. Grace carded a 21-under par 267 in reply to Colsaerts’ 18-under par tournament score.
Based on his strong performances on the European Tour, he also made it into the European Ryder Cup team.
The European team Captain Jose Maria Olazabal used one of the two captain’s picks to add Colsaerts to his squad for the 2012 edition of the biennial event.
As a result, Colsaerts became the first Belgian player in the history of the Ryder Cup to represent the European Team.
He has now set his sights on ending his 2012 campaign on a high note, by recording a victory next week in Bangkok.
With an average of 318.3 yards with his driver this season, the Belgian certainly has the potential to thrash his opponents at the Amata Spring Country Club.
“My long game is really strong at the moment. I’m testing a new shaft on my Callaway driver and I’m feeling that I can be even more efficient”.
“There is going to be some bombing at the Thailand golf Championship! Be ready…” warned the Belgian, who currently holds the 35th position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
When asked about the secret behind his long-hitting technique, he told that he learned to hit longer drives with experience.
“I have always been pretty long. Since my childhood, my coach wanted me to play long, and I liked the idea. Driving is one the best parts of my game, but I like my putting and my iron game as much as my driving,” he explained.
