Nicolas Colsaerts to defend title at Volvo China Open
Nicolas Colsaerts is seeking to regain his lost glory at the Volvo China Open, scheduled to be played in the coming week at Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin, China.
The 29-year-old Belgian professional golf player is the defending champion. He changed his career 12 months back, after winning the first European Tour title.
Colsaerts recorded an amazing score of 24-under 264 and won the title by four strokes. This was his career’s best score.
Colsaerts displayed an amazing performance in 2011. He shot a 65 and 67 in the first and second round. He further boosted his leaderboard position by scoring 66 in the last two rounds.
Moreover, he tremendously finished two bogey-free rounds and made only two throughout the four-day event.
Posting good scores took Colsaerts to the top of the leaderboard last year. Now, he is confident and hopeful to win his title back by scoring high again.
“This is the first time I have defended a title so I am looking forward to it very much,” Colsaerts confirmed.
"Obviously the Volvo China Open moves course every year so it won’t have the same feeling as returning to the same course, but I am glad to be going back. It changed a lot for me".
The current 68th ranked also shared that winning in China improved his game. He got a chance to play the World Golf Championships staged tournaments and performed well there.
“Winning in China changed me as a golfer. It made me realise I can win big events and gave me the belief that I can win on any week, and that is something that I do every time I tee it up now. It has changed the way I see tournaments and the way I handle myself in tournaments”.
The venue for the Volvo China Open has been changed. Last year, it was played at the Luxehills International Country Club and now it has been replaced by Binhai Lake Golf Club.
From April 19 to 22, Colsaerts has to face some leading stars like Peter Hanson, Paul Casey, Paul Lawrie, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Chris Wood. The competition is tough and only impressive scores will help the defending champion grab the coveted title.
