Nicolas Devilder overpowers Agustin Boje-Ordonez to reach round two – Copa Sevilla 2012
Eighth seed, Nicolas Devilder, battled past the local wild card entrant, Agustin Boje-Ordonez, in a three-set mouth-watering match at the Copa Sevilla 2012 on Tuesday. He penned down a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory against the 24-year-old to power into the second
round at this outdoor clay court event taking place from 8th to 15th September in Seville, Spain.
The French veteran brought his experience into handy at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event. He needed almost two hours to book a spot in the round of 16 and inch towards the prize money.
Devilder made a powerful entry at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. He drew the first blood in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. Apart from losing his edge in the fifth game, the French remained focused and bagged the opener with a 6-3 win after breaking
his opponent’s serve again in the eighth game.
The 24-year-old on the other hand made a fitting reply in the following set. After Devilder held his opening serve in the second game, the Spaniard went on a five-game tear. He amazingly brushed off both breakpoints he faced and capitalised on two out of
five break chances to pull out the equaliser with a breadstick.
Ranked 201st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Devilder sought his early momentum. He perfected his game and plucked his entire serves without encountering any hindrance. The French got the breakthrough in the eighth game and
clinched the decider with a 6-3 score line.
All in all, the Dax native clobbered a lower first serve share of 66 per cent as compared to his rival’s 71 per cent but acceptably marked 37 out of 58 points on it. He coughed fewer double faults and clinched the match with 86 points.
Next in queue for Devilder is the Serbian challenger, Boris Pasanski, who trashed his compatriot, Nikola Ciric, in straight sets to set up this match.
The sixth seeded wild card entrant, Tommy Robredo, recreated his magic to join Devilder. He triumphed over his countryman, Ivan Navarro, in straight sets to book a spot in the second round.
