On the eve of the team’s Coupe de la Ligue triumph over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, Olympique de Marseille coach Didier Deschamps had admitted that young defender, Nicolas N’Koulou would leave the club when the season ended.
“There is a reality which is that if players are good, Marseille is a showcase. This goes for him just like for all others. If there is a big club that plays in the Champions League, it will be hard (to keep him),” said Deschamps while talking about the
young defender.
Since signing from AS Monaco last summer, N’Koulou has been one of the few Marseille players who have done well for a club that has had a woeful 2011/2012 campaign.
Though he has played just one full season with Marseille, the youngster is already attracting a lot of attention from the likes of Barcelona and Italian Serie A side AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603. The two clubs certainly have the bargaining power that Marseille don’t have.
Several scouts have seen the Cameroonian perform for Marseille this term.
However, in a surprising turn of events, it seems that N’Koulou is set to stay at the Stade Velodrome for at least one more campaign.
If this information proves to be correct, it would be a great news for Les Phoceens who are expected to lose a few players to the summer transfer window.
Already, the likes of Andre Ayew, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Valbuena-c24690 have been linked with moves away from the Canebiere club. Stephane Mbia is another player who has been linked with a move away from the club which means that holding
on to N’Koulou is very important for the club.
Though Marseille won’t feature in the Champions League next season, N’Koulou might be satisfied by playing in the Europa League.
Furthermore, losing a player like N’Koulou would be a massive blow to the club’s future ambitions so holding onto him should be the club’s top priority this summer.
