Nicolas Pareja wrongly sent off against Zenit St. Petersburg, claims Spartak Moscow’s Marek Suchy
Spartak Moscow defender Marek Suchy has lamented the refereeing decisions in his sides’ latest Russian Premier League encounter against Zenit St. Petersburg at Luzhniki stadium. The two sides battled to a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes of grueling action.
Suchy is of the view that the match official did not get most of his decisions right during the match and gave example of his teammate, Nicolas Pareja, being sent off. The Argentine defender was given his marching orders by the match official, and Spartak
had to play the second half with 10 men.
In what was an exciting and entertaining display from both sides, Spartak Moscow came from behind to equalize late in the game. Zenit failed to take advantage on their numerical superiority, and their lead atop the table has now been further trimmed.
“I think the referee got carried away. Our players did not deserve such punishment and if the rules were violated, then the Zenit player should have been sent off too. The referee saw everything differently.” Suchy lamented the sending off.
The former Slavia Prague stopper revealed that a win against the Meshki would have given them a boost in their title hunt, as they are seven points away from the league leaders.
“Zenit are a very serious contender, we tried to deny the opponents but they have one of the best attacks in the league. Fortunately, Zenit failed to score more, and we took advantage of the situation to score an equalizer. The match took a lot of our efforts
and emotions, but we are satisfied with the result.” Suchy was quoted as saying.
The Czech footballer highlighted that it was a difficult match to play and they were lucky enough to get something out of it. Suchy heaped praise on the Zenit attack, which has scored 25 goals in the previous eight fixtures.
Having been eliminated from the UEFA Europa League and the Russian Cup, the Czech defender urged his teammates to work harder in the remaining league matches of the season.
