Nicolas Renavand dumps Frank Moser in final qualies – Moselle Open 2011
Seeded at number seven in the qualifying draws of the Moselle Open, Nicolas Renavand of France defeated Frank Moser of Germany in the final round qualies on Monday night.
In the contest being played on the indoor hard courts of the Arenes de Metz, in Metz, France, Renavand wrapped up victory in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(5), to take down the German competitor. The Frenchman took one hour and thirty
eight minutes to book a berth in the opening round of the main draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
It was an evenly poised contest, with both competitors throwing out their best at each other. Renavand had a poor serve precision of merely 49 per cent and seized 24 out of 35 first serve points in the matchup to come out as the
winner. His German opponent bettered him with 53 per cent serve and clinched 34 out of 45 points on it but still ended on the losing side.
Moser upset the third seed Irish, Conor Niland, in the previous round and played with the similar aggression in the Monday night’s match as well but it was just the matter of time that the German dropped some critical points in
the contest to end as a loser. Moser converted two of his six breaking chances in the match but was outdone by three crushing serve breaks from his opponent.
Renavand was off to a brilliant start in the opener, breaking his opponent in the fourth game to lead 4-1 early in the match. The German also registered his first serve break of the day in the ninth game, only to be broken in the
very next game t lose the first set at 4-6.
Moser regrouped in the next set and nailed a break point in the first game to lead 2-0. He held his lead in the next seven games before Renavand eventually converted a vital break point to make his way back in the game at 5-5.
The scores got dead locked at 6-6, imposing a tie breaker round into play, with Moser fighting desperately to stay alive in the match. Renavand reeled off seven points in no time to race away to victory at 7-6(5), making a place in the main draws of the Moselle
Open.
Renavand will play his opening round match against the other German contestant, Tobias Kamke, on Wednesday.
