The Girondins’ majority shareholder is happy to see his side jump to second place in the Ligue 1 standings but is remaining cautious and is also hopeful to see Francis Gillot extend his stay at Stade Chaban Delmas
After http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, a 1-0 win propelled
the Aquitaine club to a second place in the Championnat which is something not many people had expected.
Just a point behind league leaders Lyon, Bordeaux have given their fans hopes of a title assault in the final weeks of the Championnat. Silently but very effectively, Francis Gillot’s side has been one of the most impressive sides this season so far.
While talking about the current situation to L’Equipe, the club’s majority shareholder, Nicolas de Tavernost refused to talk about titles by saying that the club has a strong squad but it is still too early to talk about titles and get excited.
“Bordeaux have 24 strong players. Gillot can make choices. It is therefore normal that we went back to the top of the table. But the position is very tight, it is still a little too early to get excited.”
However, despite aiming low, Tavernost has a lot of ambitions of the club and feels that playing in the Europa League is another major challenge for the club meaning that the shareholder is expecting a long run in the tournament which is not impossible.
Since his arrival, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot has turned around the club’s fortunes. However, the outspoken manager, who will be out of contract next year, has so far refused to sign an extension which complicates things for Tavernost who is hopeful that the tactician
chooses to sign a new contract.
“We want to keep him and we have told him this. After that, it’s his choice. But we hope that he makes a quick decision.”
Talking about Yoan Gouffran’s future, Tavernost is still optimistic about the player’s chances of signing an extension which has become quite a mystery in recent times.
