Nicole Castrale posts 68 in first round of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012
American Nicole Castrale got off to a dazzling start in the opening round of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 as she shot five birdies to post a 68.
Castrale came out as one of the best players from the United States at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, being played at Sunrise Golf & Country Club as she did not
let he nerve subdue her most of the day.
Starting her round with full confidence, the American star shot a birdie on the par-4 first hole, putting pressure on her nearest rivals.
She the parrd the next hole but could not judge the ball on the greens of third hole and ended up carding her first bogey. Castrale knew how to stay out of trouble as she made the most of
suitable winds on the fairways.
Calm and collected on most of the holes, the LPGA titan sank her second birdie on the par-4 seventh. On the back nine, her game looked even more balanced and refined as she did not miss chances
she got on most of the holes.
She avoided a bogey and rattled off three birdies. On the 12th hole, Castrale drained a seemingly difficult birdie-putt, cementing her position on the leaderboard.
Castrale found herself in a comfortable position on the leaderboard right from the start of the 72-hole tournament.  She swept into top ten early in the morning thanks to a string birdies.
Having birdied the par-4 14th, the American golfer surged past most of her fellow Americans in the lineup. She capped off the first round by shooting her fifth birdie on the last
hole.
Other contenders who displayed a good performance in the opening round included Danielle Kang of the United States, who also registered a 68.
On the other hand, Thai Pornanong Phatlum was also fired up as she posted five birdies to score a 68.
Commentators said that the main attraction at the tournament is certainly Yani Tseng, who is desperately seeking to defend her title on her home soil.
While it remains to be seen how the world number one beats the odds, fans have already pinned high hopes on her as they want her to end her winning drought this week.
