Nicole Grether ousts Barbara Matias to reach in Women’s Singles quarter-final at Peru International
Canada’s Nicole Grether stretches her winning run as she enters into quarter-final stage after beating Barbara Matias of France in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final contest at the XVII Peru International 2012 on Thursday, April 12, in Peru.
Grether, who was fifth seeded player in Women’s Singles main draw of Peru International, liver up to expectations as she did not let her French opponent to take even a single game and won the match in a superb fashion.
Grether did not consume much time in the court and worked for just 34 minutes to bag the contest with a tremendous margin on the board.
On the other hand, Matias failed to stop the aggression of her higher ranked Canadian challenger and lost the match without stretching the match to three games.
In the opening points of starting set, both ladies showed impressive performance when they played with precision and remained positive in the game. They were neck-to-neck in the court as no one could manage to set up a reasonable lead.
Until the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Canadian lady was slightly ahead of her opponent.
After the break, Grether played with more aggression as she kept the bird flat this time and managed to stretch her lead.
On the other hand, Matias could not dominate the pace anymore and remained struggling against her in-form opponent.
Grether played relaxed badminton and remained successful in taking the opening set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, it was fifth seeded Canadian who did not show mercy to her French rival and managed to take a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Matias tried to play fast and positive badminton but could not dictate her opponent who was quicker in finishing rallies.
Grether did not lose her focus in the game and managed to end it without facing any resistance from her opponent. She won the set with a sensational 21-11 score on the board.
The higher ranked Canadian emerged as the winner of this Women’s Singles round-of-16 contest in 34 minutes by a tremendous margin of 21-17 and 21-11.
