Nicole Grether treads into main round of Women’s Singles event – French Open Update

Canada’s talented shuttler Nicole Grether played with great precision and escorted her country to the main round of Yonex French Badminton Open on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
She intercepted the Women’s Singles campaigner Simone Prutsch of Austria and setup next clash with a higher ranked Thai player Porntip Buranaprasertsuk.
In her last encounter of qualifying round, she had to wait for 57 minutes to read a favourable result of 21-18, 17-21 and 21-16.
The Canadian female shuttler prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas Simone Prutsch could pocket only the second match point.
Nicole Grether established her grip over the game straight away in the beginning of first set as she launched a brisk attack and pushed her rival on the back-foot.
She mounted pressure by registering a mountainous total of 9 in no time and then magnified the impact with an indomitable score position of 11 before the half time.
After the mid-game break, Nicole prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies and fetched some valuable points to strengthen her grip.
Though, Simone Prutsch made every effort to catch her competitor on points table but she had to give up this futile chase after reading 18-21 margin.
However, she managed to counter-balance the situation with a staggering knock in the following game.
The Austrian shuttler unleashed a flurry of well placed strokes and established an unassailable lead with figure of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Simone as she did not drop her pace and left the opposing shuttler far behind with 16-12 margin. She made steady progress and won this crucial set by putting an overwhelming score of 21-17.
The decider turned into a survival of the fittest war and spectators were expecting a lot of fireworks in this segment.
Unexpectedly, third set proved a dead contest as the Canadian player stole the limelight with a lustrous performance. She did not give her challenger even a single chance to bounce back and sealed a splendid win with 21-16 total.
Now Nicole will test her skills in the main draw and it will be an uphill task for her to rise against the higher ranked shuttlers.
