Nicole Morales finishes second at the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Nicole Morales bogeyed the 18th hole in the final round of the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to ruin her chances of recording a victory in the event, on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
The girls division of the tournament was being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course, where a total of 33 female amateurs competed against each other. Meanwhile, 61 male amateurs also participated in the boys division of the tournament.
Megan Khang, the overnight leader, faltered for a six-over par 77, and provided a chance to her rivals to take the commanding seat.
Morales, in the meantime, conceded a lone bogey on the front nine of the course to reach the turn in one over.
The back nine of the course witnessed her losing another shot on the 11th hole, prior to carding a birdie on the 16th hole.
Maria Torres, who started her final-round campaign at the second place, carded five bogeys against two birdies over the first 17 holes that she played.
As a result, both Morales and Torres shared the top spot, with only one hole to play. Thereafter, Morales made another mistake and suffered another bogey of the day on the last.
Torres, in the meantime, held her nerves tight and tapped in the ball for a par putt, which allowed her to take home the prestigious trophy.
At the end of the day, Morales found herself settled at the second position on the leaderboard. After completing her round, she looked really disappointed, as she failed to avail the chance of recording a victory in the event.
According to the golf commentators, Morales struggled with her game off the tee and was not able to hit the fairways on regular basis.
As a result, she did not manage to create a number of birdie opportunities during the round, which were essential to finish on top of the leaderboard.
The golf experts believe that Morales has the potential to become one of the best players in the world. For that purpose, she will have to tweak her game off the tee and develop the ability to play under pressure.
