Nicole Morales remains in contention at the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Nicole Morales added another 72 to her score on day three of the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to take the sole third place on the leaderboard, on Saturday, December 29, 2012.
The tournament is being staged at the Biltmоre Golf Cоurse, featuring a total of 33 female amateur players from different parts of the world.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Morales has not been able to break the par mark. In fact, she only has 72s recorded to her scorecard in each of the first three rounds.
The opening round witnessed Morales carding two bogeys against a lone birdie. In the second round, she posted three birdies to her scorecard. In the meantime, she also suffered four bogeys to share the second position on the leaderboard.
She then made a steady start to her third-round campaign, as she parred each of the first nine holes, to reach the turn in even par.
Thereafter, she lost a couple of shots on the 10th and the 13th hole, prior to draining a birdie putt on the 15th hole.
At the end of the day, she found herself settled three strokes behind the pace set by Megan Khang, who carded a three-over par 74 to accumulate an even-par three-round score.
Talking to the tournament’s official website, she expressed her pleasure in remaining consistent right from the start of the tournament.
In the meantime, she also hoped to post a better score in the final round, to finish the tournament on top of the leaderboard.
“Well, if nothing else I’m consistent. But I’m still waiting for the one day when my driver and putter both work together. Hopefully that happens tomorrow,” she said.
Khang, in the meantime, struggled with her game on day three. Yet, she managed to retain the top spot, thanks chiefly to a five-stroke cushion that she had after two rounds.
She now plans to remain consistent in the final round, in order to record a victory in the event.
“I have to get back to my basic routine, play one shot at a time, to concentrate on the task at hand and not on my opponents’ play,” she said.
