Nicole Petta and Courtney Cook outshine in Girl’s 50 yard freestyle – 2011 WPSC Holiday Sprints
Nicole C Petta and Courtney Cook gathered gold medals of Girl’s 50 yard freestyle in their respective age groups at the 2011 Whitney Point Swim Club (WPSC) Holiday Sprints on December 29, 2011.
Petta occupied gold medal of the freestyle discipline in the 13-14 years category while Cook proved her dominance in the 15 and over age group.
The 14-year-old Petta remained prominently ahead of her competitors from the start of the race. She was the quickest swimmer to leap into the water and with her unimaginably strong kicks, she became obvious for the crown of the event.
GOST-NI’s Petta experienced strong competition from Mary F Edwards of HHTA-NI but she managed to out-touch her rival on the finishing end for gold medal. Petta produced a splendid time of 27.38 seconds to obtain gold medal of the event. Her effort was almost two seconds behind the meet record of 25.12 seconds, owned by Cook from 2009.
With her irresistible efforts, she remained just 0.04 seconds ahead of her closest competitor Edwards, who hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 27.42 seconds for silver medal. Similarly, Edwards was trailed by Daylen M Smith of WAAC-NI, who stayed 0.95 seconds slower than her former finisher and emerged on the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 28.37 seconds.
Subsequently, the arena witnessed a notable effort of Cook, who devastated hopes of her competitors by acquiring gold medal of the similar event with a timing of 25.33 seconds. Her gold winning effort equaled the previous age group record of 25.33 seconds made by Courtney J Hadden of CAGO in 2009.
The champion was trailed by Bridget E Curley of UNAC-NI, who was 1.26 seconds slower and submitted a time of 26.59 seconds for silver medal. The third spot of the race was secured by Sky M Hoyt of GOST-NI, who remained 0.70 seconds behind the silver medallist and reported a time of 27.29 seconds for third position.
In addition, the arena was contented with the heart-winning efforts of all teenagers whereas the championship concluded after the completion of all listed events.
