Nicole Petta conquers Girl’s 100-yard freestyle gold medal: 2011 WPSC Holiday Sprints
Nicole C Petta of GOST-NI served notice of her talent by occupying gold medal of the 100-yard freestyle in Girl’s 13-14 years class at the 2011 Whitney Point Swim Club (WPSC) Holiday Sprints on December 29, 2011.
The 14-year-old Petta stunned the arena by winning second gold medal of the championship. Previously, she captured the title of Girl’s 50-yard freestyle.
Just like the 50-yard event, the champion went on a rampage to claim her second title of the competition. With the help of her fastest dive and strongest kicks, Petta earned a lead of 1.50 seconds over her strongest competitor, Taylor M Lane in the first
round.
She completed her initial half of the race with a remarkable time of 29.12 seconds and stayed 1.48 seconds ahead of Lane, who covered equivalent distance with an effort of 30.60 seconds. The 13-year-old Lane was traced by Hanna R Greulich of METS-NI, who
stayed 0.40 seconds behind her and clocked a time of 31.00 seconds for the initial 50-yards of the race.
Meanwhile, Petta continued her dominance in the second round and was the first swimmer to transpire on the finishing end with a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 00.54 seconds for gold medal. Her wonderful effort was nearly five seconds slower than the age
group mark of 55.26 seconds, held by Courtney S Cook of CAGO from 2009.
With her commendable efforts, Petta kept her closest swimmers at a considerable bay. She was followed by 13-year-old Lane, who seized second position of the freestyle event. She remained 2.51 seconds slower than the gold medallist on the finishing wall and
posted a wonderful time of 1 minute and 03.05 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was followed by 13-year-old Greulich, who remained just 0.24 seconds slower from her and clocked a time of 1 minute and 03.29 seconds for bronze medal.
Petta received a huge round of applause from the audience for her promising efforts in the freestyle discipline. In addition, the position holders were invited on the victory stand for awards and accolades after the conclusion of the session.
