Nicole Rottmann ousts Ryoko Fuda in final qualifying round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Unseeded Japanese Ryoko Fuda lost against Austrian Nicole Rottmann in the final qualifying round of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. The two battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on the 19th of
September 2011. After 1 hour and 29 minutes of the match Austrian Rottmann won in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2.
Ryoko was first to serve for the initial set as she had won the toss, the two held their serves and easily tied the score at 1-1.
In the following four games they again held their serves to round off the score at 3-3.
During the seventh game Ryoko was broken for the first time by Rottmann, as she forced an error from Ryoko and was now one up. As she held her serve by smashing an ace at 40-30 she took a mini lead of 5-3.
In the tenth game, Ryoko was serving to stay in the set while; Rottmann was looking for a break to capitalize on. As Ryoko served, her forehand went wayward during the game point and Rottmann was endorsed with an easy game to square
off her victory of the opening set.
Opening the second set was Rottmann, and the two contenders held their serve for the first three games at which point the score board read as 2-1.
However, during the fourth game Ryoko was unable to play her shots properly and double faulted twice. Thus, broken in the fourth game by Rottmann, Ryoko was now a game and break down.
In the following three games, the two won on their alternate serves and still Rottmann was leading with two games at 5-2.
Waiting to completely destroy her opponent, Rottmann was looking to break her adversary for the last and final time. As history repeated itself, Ryoko was broken as she served and with here blunders endorsed Rottmann with the match.
Rottmann was not broken even once in the match and had managed to expertly save all her break points. By attaining 71 points in the total match points, Rottmann was able to secure a berth in the main draw of the event.
