Nicole Schaller defeats Grace Gabriel in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Dutch Open
Switzerland’s Nicole Schaller proved her superior and elite skills as she has defeated Nigeria’s Grace Gabriel in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Dutch Open, at Almere, Netherlands, on Tuesday, October 11.
The Swiss played remarkable badminton in the opening set of the match and won it with a decent margin. However, she failed to maintain her control over the pace of the game in the second set and lost it with a similar score. In the deciding set, Schaller
stunned her opponent by playing on a completely different level and won the game by a wonderful margin.
The first game opened in a positive and aggressive way as both ladies were in a hurry to set up an early lead. However, until the break in the first game, no one could manage a comfortable gap. At the break, Schaller was just ahead at 11-9.
After the interval, Schaller started to play different game and controlled the pace of the rallies. She played positive and composed game against the Nigerian, who missed many chances to score points. The Swiss remained positive and focused in the whole
first set and won it by a 21-15 score in just 13 minutes.
The second game was completely different as Gabriel was on the driving seat this time. She controlled the pace of the game from the starting points and maintained a reasonable difference throughout the set. Schaller failed to play with precision in this
set and lost it in just 12 minutes with a margin of 15-21.
However, in the deciding set, Schaller played on the highest level of the game as she dictated the pace of the game by keeping her speed at the maximum level. She missed no chance to bury the bird in her opponent’s court and won the set with a big margin
of 21-10 in just 11 minutes.
This Women’s Singles qualifying-round contest ended in just 36 minutes with the victory of Schaller, who finished off the battle with a 21-15, 15-21 and 21-10 score on the board.
