The Montpellier Herault president has launched a scathing attack on his players and even went as far as calling some of them idiots. The eccentric Frenchman also has regrets for not daring to try his luck on Andre Pierre-Gignac
Ninth in the Ligue 1 standings with just 29 points from 20 games, reigning Ligue 1 champions, Montpellier Herault SC are set to travel to the Canebiere to play third placed Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Velodrome in their 21st game of the
2012/2013 Ligue 1 Championnat.
It is really surprising to see last season’s champions standing in the league where they are right now. Since the beginning of the season, the club’s volatile and impulsive president, Louis Nicollin has criticised most of his players for taking last season’s
Championelle triumph too much in their heads and it appears that Loulou is not showing any signs of relenting anytime soon.
While talking to Le Provence regarding the performances of his players, Nicollin said that he does not want to quote anyone but there are players in the dressing room who have gotten way too carried away with last season’s achievements.
Getting a little too carried away like he usually does when he is angry, Nicollin said that although his side did not steal the title last season, it is clear that the team players have been terrible.
And, with the way the Championnat has gone for Rene Girard’s men, Nicollin says that had he not had the idiots he had at his disposal, the team could have been fighting for at least a podium finish.
“If we had not had the idiots at the beginning of the season, we would have been in the fight for at least a place on the podium. But we are idiots! Three quarters of the players had two or three years on their contracts. What a mess with all these impresarios
(player agents) playing cons.”
Nicollin feels that his players believe that they will play at big clubs like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. Talking about Younes Belhanda’s future, the president went on to say that the team can easily cope without him.
“Belhanda? Come on! We won a lot of games without him. But hey, if he has to go, the Paillade will not die.”
Last season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international aboard.
“Me, If OM had lent me Gignac, I would surely have paid half his salary. With him this season, La Paillade would not have been hurt at all. But I have idiots with me. They understand nothing. I know him well the lad (Gignac). Labrune acted with intelligence.
He did what I told him. ‘Take him in your arms, kiss him and tell him that he is a wonder’. That’s what I told him.”
Not a dull day when one goes out to have a chat with Louis Nicollin!
