Niels Albert wins the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Round # 2
Niels Albert of Team BKCP-Powerplus continued his tremendous form and claimed yet another victory at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Round # 2.
The cyclist rode brilliantly throughout the race and restricted his major opponents after a competitive time of 1 hour, 8 minutes and 26 seconds.
Klaas Vantornout of Team Sunweb-Revor finished 36 seconds behind at the second position, with Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor, Tom Meeusen of Team Telenet-Fidea and Bart Wellens of Team Telenet-Fidea occupying the third, fourth and the fifth positions
in the respective order.
Albert noted that the weather conditions were in his favour as he loves racing in rain and the muddy conditions ideally suit his abilities.
His previous victory at the same venue goes way back in 2009 and he was delighted on claiming such an important victory at the race.
“I’ve won here as a world champion in 2009 and now I win again in this jersey. The corners were really dangerous because you can make a mistake everywhere,” he cited.
“You have to pay a lot of attention and use your technique”.
“I’m in a lot of pain. I was on the wrong track and didn’t click into the pedal with one foot. I landed on the top of my frame. Physically I didn’t suffer much today but the crash hurt a lot,” Nys told Sporza.
Sven Nys of Team Landbouwkrediet-KDL finished 1 minute and 31 seconds behind at the sixth position with Bart Aernouts of Team AA Drink Cyclocross Team and Francis Mourey of Team FDJ-BigMat achieving the seventh and the eighth positions respectively.
Thijs van Amerongen of Team AA Drink Cyclocross Team and Julien Taramarcaz of Team BMC Mountainbike Racing achieved the ninth and the tenth positions in the respective order.
The victory helped Albert in equaling the total points earned after the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup #2.
He now leads the overall standings with a total number of 145 points while Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor secures the second position with the same number of 145 points to his credit.
Klaas Vantornout of Team Sunweb-Revor, Tom Meeusen of Team Telenet-Fidea and Sven Nys of Team Landbouwkrediet-KDL claimed the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
