Manchester City midfielder and Dutch international Nigel De Jong believes that Manchester City are already proving to be the better team in Manchester.
The midfielder made his comments prior to the Manchester derby, which is set to kick off this Sunday and is going to be a real test of both the teams’ capabilities.
De Jong, along with a number of other City players are not fearing the threat the Manchester United pose, as they have already gone on to beat them last season, when the two teams faced off in the semi final stages of the FA Cup. At the same time, De Jong
believes that the overall spirit at the club seems to be at an all time high and it is only a matter of time before City enforce their dominance on their local rivals.
“Of course, everyone believes we can win”
“We’re going there as No. 1 and the aim is to stay No. 1.”
“The pressure is still the same as it was last year, but what has changed is that we’re now No. 1 going into this derby.
“That brings pressure, but the pressure is always there because of how this Manchester City team is growing. “
The player then highlighted the fact that City have already beaten the team and hence are well aware of the fact that the team is easily beatable.
“We proved last season that we could beat them, so we don’t have anything to prove. We’ve shown our quality throughout the season. We don’t need a game against United to show how good we are.
The midfielder then ended by admitting City were looking to retain their spot at the top of the league table at the end of the season and were going to do just about anything to ensure they remained there.
“We’re on top of the league, so going into this game we just have to be confident and play our game as well as we have been doing.”
So far this season City have made a very impressive impact on the Premier League. The team has not lost a single game yet and are currently on top of the league. Despite being level on points with United, their superior goal difference sees them edge past
their local rivals.
This Sunday is going to be an all out brawl between the two sides, since a spot at the top of the league, along with the bragging rights of being the better side in Manchester are both up for grabs.
