Nigel Mansell: Red Bull impressive, McLaren should work hard, Ferrari slow starters – Formula 1 news
The 1992 Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell has voiced an interest in the ongoing 2011 season.
In his own evaluation, Mansell stated that the Red Bull team has impressed him the most and the McLaren Mercedes team will have to work hard to catch the 2010 champions.
He further added that the Ferrari team is also a slow starter in development race and will spice up the season in the later part.
“I think Red Bull have come straight off the starting blocks, and Seb Vettel is defending his world championship brilliantly and has driven some fantastic races,” stated Mansell.
He further added, “Lewis did a great job with that one win, but McLaren has to find a bit more pace, but it is early days yet. We know lots of things can turn around. Ferrari every year seems to be slow starters, but I should image that they will start to
bounce back. It will be a race again with development.”
Mansell added that the defending world champion Sebastian Vettel is piloting way ahead of everyone else on the grid, but soon he will be accompanied by one or two other drivers.
Mansell added that it is up to other teams to bounce back and stop the Red Bull team from taking a supreme glory. Mansell said that Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso are the strongest competitors for a championship fight.
As the 2011 Formula 1 season has progressed so far, Mansell has pin-pointed the prospects of the battles. The former world champion added that some of drivers will come out of the blue to win races and surprise bigger teams.
Mansell also downplayed Michel Schumacher’s turnover in the season and commented that if Mercedes’ performance goes in the right direction, then hopefully at the end of the season, Schumacher would have won one or two races.
For now, the season continues in Barcelona this weekend and as every Formula 1 pundit would predict, Red Bull will come out on top with McLaren and Ferrari trailing behind.
