Nigel Mansell becomes the new ambassador for Lotus Cars
Nigel Mansell has once again tied up with his old brand, ‘Lotus Cars’. The former Formula One driver would be taking up the role of an ambassador with one of the leading car manufacturer companies of the world, Lotus Cars. The
1992 Champion has been assigned to help the company with the making of its latest single-seater, T125.
This is a uniquely designed track day car, which focuses on giving an exhilarating experience to paying customers, who wish to get a feeling closer to the Formula One cars. Mansell will work alongside the two great car designers
of the world, Jean Alesi and James Rossiter in putting the car together.
Most part of the construction work has already been done and now it is nearing its finishing stages. For the process of final joining and testing, Lotus believes that it cannot find a man better than the heroic racing driver. During
his racing years, the 57-year–old Briton was considered as ‘the most courageous’ man on the track. All through the last few years of his driving career, Mansell was famous as a dramatic racer and people loved to see this man on the track. The daring racer
drove for several top teams during his career, but Lotus provided him with the launching pad for his Formula One career and he remained affiliated with the team for a period of five years.
Now, the driver is expected to take the T125 along with the other two designers to the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, next week for its first test. While talking to the media earlier today, he stated, “I'm really looking forward
to getting behind the wheel of the Type 125, I can't wait to see how it handles the new circuit in Abu Dhabi. Returning to Lotus in this capacity brings back a lot of memories for me. I will always be extremely grateful to Lotus and especially to Colin Chapman,
who was so inspirational and almost like a second father to me.”
He further added, “I've been watching the developments that have been taking place recently at Hethel with their ambitious race and road car projects with great interest. I'm really delighted to see that Lotus is back where it
belongs competing with the best in the top echelons of motorsport.”
The signing of the deal served as an additional treat for Mansell, who was very happy for both his sons, Greg and Leo. They secured a class podium in the Dubai 24 Hours with GT4-spec Lotus Evora, which he believes to be a proud
moment for him.
