Nigel Mansell praises Sebastian Vettel’s performance in the 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 former world champion Nigel Mansell has said that Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel’s performance in the 2011 season is excellent since he took a very strong start.
He admitted that Vettel was the only driver who had a great run on the new Pirelli tyres in the ongoing season.
Mansell added about the current world champion during the announcement of Williams’s new Renault deal that his start in the season was phenomenal and that he has done the best job with the Pirelli tyres during the races.
He compared the German’s performance with other team drivers and said, “Ferrari did set new benchmarks when they went three years without a mechanical breakdowns. Michael Schumacher won three world championships and people have said that it was through reliability
as much as anything else.”
The 24-year-old driver is leading the drivers’ championship with 186 points in the ongoing season. After winning his sixth race at the recently held European Grand Prix, Vettel is being tipped as the favourite to win the 2011 title.
The former world champion further added that Vettel must stay ahead in the drivers’ championship until the end of the season. He believes the Red Bull driver will retain his current position in the upcoming race weekends, as he is in a very strong form at
the moment.
He went on to add, “But don't underestimate... Sebastian has done the best job with the Pirelli tyres, and for me my take on it is he's not been used to the other older tyres, where you get a lot of balance and grip and everything else, and there are a lot
of drivers out there who have been used to a different type of tyres.”
On the other hand, the Red Bull team is quite happy with the performance of their driver Mark Webber, as he has satisfactory results for them.
He made very impressive run at the Valencia Street Circuit recently, where he had a very close fight with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the ending laps and finally finished his race in the third place.
After a successful race weekend in Europe, Red Bull Racing are expecting another race victory from Vettel in the upcoming British Grand Prix. The action from the Silverstone circuit begins this Friday, July 8, 2011.
