Nigel Mansell says Lewis Hamilton must stay at McLaren-Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 former world champion Nigel Mansell has said that McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton must stay with his current team, as he has had the best moments of his career with them so far.
He also said that McLaren are a fantastic team in Formula 1, so Hamilton will not think about leaving his team after the end of his contract with them.
After the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, there were rumours about the Brit that he is planning to switch his team in the near future. He had a meeting with Red Bull principal Christian Horner during the Montreal race weekend. However, Horner refused
to talk about the meeting with him.
Mansell said, “But for me Lewis has had an amazing career with McLaren and I think as Michael Schumacher proved by staying with Ferrari, if you can have the support of a team totally behind you, then build on that year on year. He [Hamilton] hasn't exactly
had a drought, McLaren is a fantastic team.”
He went on to mention, “First of all he would have to be fortunate enough to be offered one. Personally I would stay with McLaren and all the people who had supported him, through thick and thin, I think it might be a mistake if he changes teams.”
Mansell praised the performance of Hamilton in the 2011 Formula 1 season. He said that the 26-year-old driver is a racer as well as a great fighter. He said he was struggling for the season championship. In addition, he mentioned that Hamilton can recover
the points in the remaining races of this season, if McLaren provide him with a perfect car.
The McLaren driver has won only once in the ongoing season at the Chinese Grand Prix. He has still been unable to beat the defending champion Sebastian Vettel after that.
The Silverstone race will take place on July 10, 2011. Let’s see how Hamilton performs over there following the disappointing race weekend in Europe recently.
