Nigel Twiston-Davies rates The New One as one of the best
Trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, rates The New One as one of the best horses he has ever trained and he is really excited about his chances in the upcoming events. However, the young challenger was unable to succeed in his most recent race at Cheltenham, which
was a touch disappointing for his fans.
The five-year-old gelding was rated as the favourite to succeed in that event and had entered the contest with a starting price of 4 to 5. The only worry for him was the difficult track, which was left heavy because of rain.
He fought hard until the end though and it was not easy for his opponents to match his speed and skills. Despite that, the talented stallion failed to finish on top of the table and ended up as a runner up by just a neck distance.
Twiston-Davies was not worried about that performance though and stated, “He's an exceptional horse, I think he could be very special. We've been lucky to have some special horses and he's right up there with them. He's obviously got a huge burst of speed.
In hindsight we probably used it too soon last time.”
Overall, The New One has participated in a total of eight races and his performances in them have been really great. He has been victorious on six occasions whereas finished as a runner up once. There was only one event, where he failed to finish in the
top three, which clearly shows that he is capable of troubling his rivals at the highest level.
Talking about another one of his trained stallions, Imperial Commander, Twiston-Davies said that he was pleased with what he achieved in his comeback race.
The veteran gelding was out of action because of an injury, but finished as a runner up in his comeback race.
According to Twiston-Davies, “He ran a superb race. People talk about his age but I don't see him being an awful lot worse than he was three years ago. He seems in very good nick. They're all very good horses but they haven't shown the form he has.”
