Nigeria midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Obi-Mikel-c18882 desperate for permanent place in Chelsea squad
John Obi Mikel, the 24-year-old Nigerian midfielder, revealed he was determined to make an impact in the holding midfielder role for the Blues as they prepare to take on leaders Manchester United on Sunday. Mikel has proved to be crucial in the Blues' return
to form, after their terrible mid-season slump, which has once again made them title contenders.
Chelsea are currently in second place on the Premier League table, just three points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. While Manchester United will be busy in Europe tonight, the Blues will be focusing solely on the upcoming Premier League fixture, knowing
very well that a win at Old Trafford on Sunday will send them top of the table.
Even though the two sides will be level on points if Chelsea manage to secure a win over Manchester United over the weekend, the Blues will be ahead on goal difference. While that might not have been enough earlier on in the season, with just two games remaining
after this weekend, it could very well determine who is crowned the Premier League Champion.
In a highly disappointing season for the Blues, Mikel is one of the few players who has retained his form and has remained consistent. The Nigeria international has had to fight for a place in the squad but his persistence has finally earned him a spot in
the team. He revealed he was hopeful to get a start against Manchester United in the must-win fixture.
Mikel said while speaking to reporters, “I had a good run from the start of the season until about January and then I wasn't playing so much. Now I have started playing again and I just want to keep playing as much as I can and help the team win games and
trophies and this is my aim and this is why I am in this club.”
Mikel was highly impressive against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend as the Blues grabbed a 2-1 win over their London rivals at Stamford Bridge. The holding midfielder made his 200th appearance for the Blues in that fixture and it has been described
as one of his best performances for the Blues since he joined the club in 2006.
The 24-year-old Mikel revealed he had received specific orders from Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti before the match against the Spurs and was determined to help his side secure silverware. He continued, “I just want to help this team win trophies, that is
my aim and as long as I am playing and this team is winning games and trophies then I am happy.”
Since 2006-2007, Mikel has made 200 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in all competitions and has gone on to score 2 goals. He was an important part of the team that won the club’s first ever domestic double of the English Premier League and FA Cup last season.
