Stephen Keshi has confirmed his interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s winger but has dismissed reports of calling him up to the national squad for the next International Friendly.
The Nigerian national team manager has admitted that he would love to name http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sidney-Sam-c33476 in the squad, given the player agrees. He expressed his interest in the player and admitted that the winger would be a great addition to the
team. However, the boss admitted that he is yet to see the player exhibiting his skills.
Sam has been injured of late and has not featured regularly for Werkself this season. He has already represented Germany at the U19, U20 and U21 level and is yet to confirm his interest in playing for Nigeria.
Keshi also rubbished reports claiming that he plans to call Sam for Nigeria’s next international fixture. The tactician insisted that Sam does not even know about the scenario and he is yet to talk to the player about it. The boss
specified that he has no plans of calling the Leverkusen man until he agrees to represent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigeria-c2970 rather than Germany.
While talking to supersport.com, the boss further added:
"I have heard a lot about Sidney but I'm yet to see him play because he is injured at the moment. But I'm surprised to have heard and read that I will call up Sidney to the national team for our next game. Well I never told anyone
that because I am yet to talk to him and he is even yet to make a commitment about playing for us.”
On the other hand, Keshi confirmed that he will not force Sam to play for Nigeria if he decides against it. The manager stated that he respects the decision of every footballer and if Sam believes that he could achieve his goals
while playing as a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international, then he should be given the liberty.
"We have to respect the decisions of footballers and I am ready to talk to Sidney to know what he wants for his international career,” Keshi concluded.
Sam signed for the BayArena outfit in 2010 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 and so far has netted 10 league goals from 43 appearances. The winger is still out with injury and therefore will not be available for Leverkusen’s next game against
Mainz on Saturday, March 31.
