Is this normal or do I have an eye condition. When driving against someone who doesn't even have thier brights on, I'm blinded for the second until they pass. Is this a normal occurrence or do I have a eye problem?

  1. I believe you may have astigmatism like myself.  I have the same problem for night driving especially in rural areas.  My astigmatism makes me see objects in many, many layers.  Therefore, the light-beam coming at me seems to cross the centerline.  I am really seeing many layers of one headlight.  It causes alot more glare.

  2. This is normal, you probably don't have an eye condition.  If you drive a low, or even normal height car you are at eye level with oncoming traffic headlights.

Try directing your eyes to the white line on the right shoulder of the road.  This strip is reflective and will still be visable even as your eyes are temporarily hindered by the lights.

It is also possible your tires are low on air, putting you into the path of oncoming lights.  Check your tire pressure.

  3. It's usually advisable not to look into their headlights, because you may be blinded. Try to look at the right shoulder of the road when someone is coming toward you with their headlights on.

  4. It is important for people with this problem to first have a thorough examination by an ophthalmologist.

This should include visual acuity in both brightly lighted … and dimlight conditions.

It should include examinations of the eye's cornea, lens, vitreous and retina. And it should include testing internal eye pressure and then plotting the patient’s visual fields.

The pupillary responses to changing light levels should also be tested.

  5. It is bright, but i am not even close to being "blinded", sometimes their lights are mis adjusted, or if it is raining, it seems brighter. Also, watch the white line when a car passes!
