I have been having night mares about diving! I have to do a back one and a half today and last night I was having a night mare about it! Sometimes I find myself saying stuff like NO No! I don't know how I can get myself to calm down! Because right now I am not getting any sleep and I have to be good for school! Any help would be great! Oh, and nothing like you should see a doctor! The doctor didn't help me!

Has anyone had this happen before? If you have please wright something about what it was like and what you did to get rid of it!

I don't know if you need my age: I am 13 almost 14 in like 19 days! Oh, and there isn't any scary things in my night mares just me diving but I get scared and then start screaming! WHY AM I DOING THIS????????????

I love to dive!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!!!

  1. Your nightmares are a reflection of what is going on in your unconscious mind. You're fretting about your diving during the day, and that worry is just continuing while you sleep.

The way to get rid of the nightmares is to be proactive. Instead of stewing about what might go wrong, start visualizing about doing a perfect back 1-1/2. Do it over and over and over. Incorporate all of your senses -- sight, hearing, touch, smell -- to make it as vivid as possible. See how high you go in the air. Feel yourself rip into the water. Hear your teammates and coach screaming wildly after you break the surface -- amazed at how perfect the dive was.

You can do this during the day, but for sure do it the last thing before you drift off to sleep. Your last waking thoughts should be filled with pride and confidence.

    Good luck!

  2. if you have a passion for it then do it. if your night mare was a sign you will never know until you do it. when you start to dive at school just try to remain calm and focus on something positive, not the nightmares. try to relax, lay in silence for a while or listen to some slow music if you find yourself thinking about what happen in the nightmare.

i have really weird nightmares but all do not come true, very few do. so i just forget all about them and remember that the brain processes information in deep sleep, when we have been active throughout the day, this causes us to dream.

you'll be good, don't worry just follow your heart.

  3. I use to be a swimmer. Although it is slightly different I had performance fears as well.

One advice, although it is hard, would be to try and focus on other things on you life. I know when you are so much into a sport or any activity that it can overwhelm you. I know you want to do well, but you have to have faith that you put in the hard work to get it done - and leave it alone. I am believe that you practiced this and your body knows how to do this. Let your practice and efforts do the work. Let your conscious mind enjoy the ride (and not control it). Some distractions may be to go for a different activity like a bike ride, or read something light, crosswords or other problems, give your mind a rest from diving 24/7 (in your head) and your dreams will hopefully follow.

  4. HELLO

THE OBVIOUS ANSWER IS THAT YOU ARE WORRIED THAT YOU MAY MUCK UP THE DIVE. IF YOU CAN TRY AND CONTROL YOUR DREAMS.

TRY THINKING OF SWIMMING RATHER THAN DIVING.

    DO YOU FEEL MORE RELAXED?

OR THINK YOUR WAY THROUGH THE EASIER DIVES THAT YOU USED TO WORRY OVER THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED. IF YOU CAN START AT THE EASIEST AND GO THROUGH EACH ONE A COUPLE OF TIMES NICE AND SLOWLY AND INGLUDE THE NEXT ONE AS WELL
