Question:

Night Sky in Ireland?

When it isn't overcast, how is the view of the night sky over there in Ireland? I'm a bit of an amateur astronomer and am in the process of considering a move to the great Emerald Isle. We have a lot of light pollution where I'm at and I was just curious how it is there.

Any great spots to sky watch from when I visit?

  1. My boyfriend lives in the middle of nowhere in Tipperary and the views are spectacular, even with the naked eye. Similarly in Kerry. Light pollution is a problem in the cities, but not as bad as most European cities.

The absolute best place I've looked at the stars was on Cape Clear island, off the Cork coast. There's a handful of houses on the island, and it's too far to be affected by the mainland. Absolutely amazing, we even saw satellites.

  3. well where i live ( co.wicklow) the sky is not smoggy so we get a lovely clear view just wish i knew what the names of all the stars are...dublin which i live 12 miles from can be a little smoggy at times not very often.
