Question:

Night time racing at Qatar?

What do you think of the race at Qatar taking place at night time next season? Do you think it will work? I'm not sure what to think about this one. I remember Capi, rossi and co testing it last year and complaining about lighting throwing shadows.

  1. Night time? If it's really going to be a night race, well I can't wait! It sounds fun and I'm sure everyone will enjoy it. As for the lights, I'm sure that they will fix them if there is a problem. The night time will be a test for some riders. The ones who have more skills will be in front! We have to remember that it's not just the bike and the tyres, it's also the rider.

I really can't wait to see that one! :))

  2. i think they should scrap that race all together there is never a huge crowd running a night won't help that

  3. Hi Cheryl

I think it's gonna be a lot more fun for us to watch, than it is for them to ride.

As others have pointed out - the endurance bikes do it (and look pretty cool) but the reg's have gotta be a pig for the gp crews to figure out!

Oh well, they've got the winter break to figure it out - it should make for a pretty spectacular opener as night racing is pretty exciting.

    Can't wait!

  4. Has it definitely been confirmed or is it just an idea?

If they can get the lighting right I think it will be better for the riders. Certainly more comfortable. Day time temp there is very hot (even during the time of year that they go).

So light is the only question mark. But I'm sure they'll have had time to to resolve any problems or issues that the riders have.

Bikes take part in 24 hour races all the time, admittedly they have headlights usually, and moto gp wont. Whatever, it will be a level playing field......but we'll see how it goes.

Edit: Just seen on Yahoo Moto GP news that it has been confirmed!

  5. It's worth a try.

Other sports play at night and I'm pretty sure the light set up will do the job.

  6. There is no reason NOT to race at Qatar in the night.

It is done all the time at Endurance events.

However the whole point of Motogp is to go round the track quicker on two wheels then anything else possible. Motogp is about pushing the envelope to try new things. I'm sure the Endurance would welcome a "full" night time event, but the Motogp gang will dis miss it.

The rules will have to change to much due to weight for the lights / starter kits / wheel change equipment.

I do however think it would be cool to see a Motogp bike with lights going h**l for leather at a track!

  7. I think it will be good for the sport and will appeal to all the fan,s and team,s as it will be something different and interesting which can only be good for Moto GP.

  8. Don't like the idea at all.

They are trying the same in F1.

Sadly it's all commercially driven to fit into Western daytime broadcast schedules so will probably go ahead.
