Question:

Nightguard for your teeth?

My dentist recommends i get a nightguard. I'm not going to an uncomfortable one-size-fits-all from target but i've seen many custom fitted ones in upwards of $100 but below $200 (where you use a kit to make your cast and send it to them to make the guard). The thing is the nightguard my dentist is recommending (they would do the cast and an outside company would make the guard) costs $900 ($400 of which i will have to pay out of my pocket). Is there any difference in the custom made ones on amazon and the dentist recommended company ones?

  1. I don't know about the custom made ones.  I got one from the drugstore and you can mold it yourself right to your teeth.  It's made by Colgate, I think and it's surprisingly comfortable.

  2. Yes there is a big difference. Custom made night guards are made to protect your individual teeth. The ones you buy in stores or order on line are not custom created and can actually do more damage than help because one tends to chew on them while sleeping which puts stress on your teeth. A bite guard will last for years if you take care of it and $400 is an investment in your future. Mine cost me $500 and I sleep with it in each night.
