Question:

Nightlife in Paris for a non-drinker?

Hello everyone... I will be spending the month of July in Paris this year on a study trip. I will have a great many free evenings and am looking for some suggestions that basically are NOT bars.

I am a recovering alcoholic and don't want to spend my nights in bars. I am 23 and used to be quite good with my french, but am going this summer as a refresher.

Please let me know your suggestions! Thank you so much!

  1. hmm lets see... you could go to parc asterix but i think its for little kids, possibly go taste wine, look it up in a brochure

  2. There are probably thousands of cafes in Paris. Order an expresso or mineral water & watch the crowd go by. People sit and chat for hours at the cafes. One of the most amazing sights I saw was the night roller skating tour of Paris. There must have been a couple hundred folks whizzing by us, so sign up for that if it's your style.  Walk and see the sights.Paris at night from Monmartre or the Eiffel Tower is a sight not to be missed. Museums are open late one night a week Go to a show or a concert or the opera. They probably have outdoor performances that time of year. There are dance clubs and casinos and alcohol is a much lower key thing in Paris than it is in the states at those places A month in Paris, Are you sure you can't take me with you??

  3. Hello Susan

If you were talking about Paris Hilton I would say that you would probably be out of luck if you were a non-drinker, but there must be a lot of non-drinkers in Paris France who would be able to show you a very good time without having to get drunk and falling on your butt.

Getting away from alcohol can be a very hard thing to do once you get addicted to it, so I very greatly admire you if you are able to stay away from alcohol!!!!!

    May God Bless you Susan!!!

  4. Whatever you do, keep your belongings close to you at all times.  I know too many people who have been pickpocketed in Paris.   Those thieves are very tricky and will cause distractions to open up an opportunity to steal your wallet.  Also, stay away from the Chinese tourists who want you to buy them stuff at Louis Vuitton!

I'd suggest try making some pen pals now so when you get to Paris you'll have some locals you can hang out with.  Try Craigslist or something.  =)  Be safe!

  5. It is all but impossible to avoid being in the presence of alcohol in Paris. Beer and wine are even sold at Disneyland.

However, alcoholism is well understood in France where it is at least as common as anyplace else and, at least among people I know, having a non alcoholic drink at a cafe, bar, or other nightspot will not elicit any comment or negative reaction.

There are, by the way, english language AA groups meeting in Paris. A list may be found here: http://paris.angloinfo.com/information/6...
