Well I'm asking this for my boyfriend and he has dreams where he is in his dream but it feels so real he feels as though he's awake, he hears a lot of scary things but he can't move and when he is able to wake up he wakes up in the same position as he was when he couldn't move in the dream and his body feels numb once he's awake.

So my question is how can he get ride of these dreams and what do they mean?

  1. Sleep paralysis is a common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia that occurs upon awakening from sleep or less often while falling asleep. Stimuli such as touch or sound may terminate the episode, which usually has a duration of seconds to minutes. This condition may occur in normal subjects or be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occur during REM sleep[1]. When considered to be a disease, isolated sleep paralysis is classified as MeSH D020188.[2]

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger [3]. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations[4]. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.[5] A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox of the University of the West of England suggested that alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.[6]

The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes "after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false"

Cure for sleep paralysis is to reduce stress and getting enough sleep.

Individuals with isolated sleep paralysis need to be assured that they do not have mental illness or serious medical illness.

Medications can also be administered as a cure for sleep paralysis in severe cases, and sometimes-simple routines can minimize the effects of Sleep Paralysis.

    Steps for Sleep Paralysis Cure

Irregular sleeping schedules or frequent napping may increase the occurrence of sleep paralysis, so as is the case for most sleep disorders, a regular sleeping schedule is important.

Sleep deprivation may cause sleep paralysis. People with psychiatric problems may experience from sleep paralysis. This person needs ongoing treatment with medication.

This would be overseen by a doctor or psychiatric specialist. You may notice sleep paralysis happening with leg cramps. It may also occur after a change in your medicines. Discuss these problems with your doctor.

People with narcolepsy frequently have sleep paralysis. They usually need an antidepressant medication to decrease or eliminate dream sleep. This will help to alleviate the sleep paralysis. Taking an antidepressant drug does not mean that you are depressed. It is simply a method to help lessen sleep paralysis.

It’s a very terrifying experience and leaves the sufferer feeling helpless as to how to stop it from occurring again. The best treatment is knowledge. By knowing what causes this disorder, we can reduce our fear.

During paralysis episodes, patients may be advised to try moving the facial muscles and moving eyes from one side to the other.

This may hasten the termination of the attack. In severe cases, where attacks take place, at least once a week medication may be used. It is known that stress and sleep disturbances increase the episodes of sleep paralysis. Therefore, to minimize the number of episodes, patients are advised to do the following:

    Get enough sleep

    Reduce stress

Exercise regularly, but not before bedtime

    Sleep at a regular schedule

Don’t drink/eat caffeine type products before bedtime

Take a hot bath before bed, it will relax you.

People who take medicines and drugs for anti-anxiety such as "Xantax" or "Valium" will have a greater chance of suffering from Sleep Paralysis. For others, the problem is often tied to sleep deprivation, a consequence of being overtired.

    Self Cure for Sleep Paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a common condition where people are paralyzed at the onset of sleep or upon waking, often with terrifying hallucinations. You may be able to minimize the episodes by following good sleep hygiene:

Sleep patterns can have a severe effect on sleep paralysis. Prevent the events of sleep paralysis by keeping a regular healthy sleep pattern and getting enough sleep.

Sleep paralysis can be triggered by a variety of conditions. Sleep paralysis is most usually caused by the position you fall asleep in, most commonly when lying on your back.

Try keeping a log of the conditions of your incident of paralysis. Track details

  2. You need to use your own intelligence to solve your Dreams as they are very personal to you and are an actual blueprint of yourself. It would be wise to read http://www.shvoong.com/medicine-and-heal... and decipher your dream yourself.

  3. Don't go to bed on a full stomach and think about great things before going to sleep.

  4. Having the same dream means that it is very urgent, and he will HAVE to pay attention to it. HAVING IT EVERY NIGHT MEANS ITS UTTERLY IMPORTANT, AND SUPER URGENT!

It would def help to interpret the dream if u told us what it was. But, its just that he's scared, and having a small stage of night terror. Example, a sad memory. It could also mean he's being abused and had a rough life

  5. Hi Passion4,

That is really scary. While he is dreaming he needs to face what ever it is in his dream that is scaring him so much.Does he have any unfinished business with anyone?Has he made any emeries that would what to harm him? If so this is what the dream is trying to warn him about My Friend. Tell him to be careful and not make any remarks about what he has been dreaming My Friend. I do believe your dreams are a form of trying to tell you something.

    Your Friend,

  6. It sounds to me like your boyfriend is a "sensative", he has to listen to all he can and learn all he can while he is in this state. He is having OBE's (out of body experiences) but not leaving his body. I bet he wakes up completely exhausted as well? As if he never slept?

He needs to learn how to take control, if this is the case.
