Nights out drinking in Liverpool; Rough or ok?

One of my best friends is planning on going to Liverpool on a night out for her 21st birthday, and of course I've been invited. At first I was really excited as I've never been to Liverpool drinking before.

But when I told people about it, so many people have said its really rough with tons of drugs and fights, and that it is just a really nasty place to go. They've told me I need to be really careful and stuff. Now I'm a bit put off and worried about going!!!

Is it really as bad that for a night out, is it rough? Or is it ok??

  1. it's ok now. the crime rate in Liverpool is better than before. in a recent news says the crime rate in Liverpool is better than most places. so i think it would be good, but dont get plastid tho.

  2. I've never been but I do live in Manchester. I would say it will be ok. Like Manchester, Liverpool get bad press as being really rough. I know Manchester as being a good place to live so I'm guessing Liverpool is the same. I think you'll be fine. Just don't get too drunk.

  3. It's a great night out, cheap too.

  4. Liverpool is a really safe place to have a night out, but like any town centre a little common sense is needed.

The policing in the main drinking areas (Mathew St and Concert Sq) is highly visible, you are rarely more than a few yards from a policeman and usually the atmosphere is good, with the police approachable and helpful. If there ever is a problem it is usually sorted out very quickly.

As an example, the daughters of the Duke of Westminster who lives near to Chester, shocked their parents because they preferred to have nights out in Liverpool, because they felt much safer than they did in Chester. On the back of this the Duke has driven the multi billion investment in the Liverpool one, europe's largest retail development.

I regularly visit a country town, very rural and isolated. There was a drugs raid on a pub recently, and a stag party threw a device into the fire in one pub which exploded and nearly destroyed the pub. Outsiders are regularly attacked by locals, so nowhere is safe, but I would say Liverpool is as safe as any where else in the country.

For some reason many people who have never been to Liverpool have a downer on it, why I don't know. If you do come I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable stay in our city and I hope you will tell your friends how wrong they are.

  5. It's fine - no worse than anywhere else.  If you're not involved with that kind of thing you won't notice it.

It's a good nigh out.  Enjoy yourself.
