  1. Ghost Love Score will always be my favorite, lyrically, musically, vocally, and overall.

The first time I heard Anette sing, I hated her voice. However, the more I listen to Dark Passion Play, the less I hate her voice. She'll never measure up to Tarja in my opinion, though. There's just a strong power in Tarja's voice that Anette does not have.

Having said all that, I really love The Poet and the Pendulum, though. But as you said, it's really split up, and it's a little too split up for my liking. I don't mind it when songs have different movements within them, but I like it when the movements can really flow together.

  2. The Poet and the Pendulum.

I dont know why, i just find that one more... more... Urm, how to put it?? I dunno i love that one because it just gets too me, do you get what i mean?? Lol. Sorry i have no idea how to approch this question.

But then i like both of them.. Both Musically, Vocally, Lyrically good!

    NIGHTWISH RULE.

  3. Vicky, in the middleish ending part of Ghost Love Score, you have no clue how that sounds. lol it sounds like the EXACT same kind of music I hear at the Kennedy Space Center, you know what I'm talking about? when I go look at stuff about the moon and sun etc....lol but it's okay.

uhm, the song is okay but I would never put it on my ipod because of the singing.

now I'm listening to The Poet and The Pendulum....it sounds like the "space" music again...the beginning instruments do. And the singing is not for me :) instrumentally it's great metal...but not the Tarjaness. But when she sings normally...it's a good song.

I couldn't understand the lyrics in the first one for 2 reasons. it was operatic singing so that meant I had to actually TRY and understand and the second reason is that I didn't try :x

For the second one, I didn't try either...good thing the lyrics were right on the side xD I like the lyrics for The Poet and The Pendulum.

I am not choosing between the songs...becauuse...I just can't.

EDIT:well the boy is a horrible singer...he sounded like he was crying. =/ and I guess that's why I liked the song...because it was anette and not tarja lol

anette is better, she sings normal.

I also didn't hear Marco anywhere....maybe my ears are just weird.

EDIT2: ah, THERE'S Marco. musically The Poet and The Pendulum is better. and vocally.

  4. I think I prefer Ghost Love Score musically.

But I prefer The Poet And The Pendulum vocally and lyrically. So I guess my favorite is The Poet And The Pedulum. I do like them both though. :)

  5. I love The Poet And The Pendulum, I think it's a stupendous way to open an album. The instrumentation in that song is clearly superior to GLS, because well, more instruments, more music, more writing, more difficult to play.

Definitely TPATP, I prefer musically. There's just so much music poured into this thing, it's intense and that's just how I like it. :P

I love Anette's vocals in this one - her vocal lines are relatively simple, but perhaps this is what also makes it very effective - the music is so bombastic that her voice, which can be sometimes very loud and she can certainly belt it out, doesn't overwhelm this song. This song is definitely much more about the music than the vocals. Marco's vocals add just the right touch of aggressiveness, while also not overwhelming the music.

I think Anette shows her vocal ability probably more in "Mother & Father" than anywhere else on DPP. That is a truly beautiful segment. Vocally I think GSL and TPATP are tied, honestly. Although Tarja's undoubtedly got the skill, I've always found Tarja sings only with her voice - a beautiful voice, of course - but Anette sings with her heart and emotes into everything she sings. So what Anette lacks in Tarja's technical skill, she makes up for in emotion.

My verdict on TPATP is that it is phenomenal musically, vocally is kept simple and conveys the emotions well, and lyrically it has some very interesting, experimental and beautiful lyrics.

GSL, now. This is getting to be an essay, but oh well. :P

GSL is certainly great musically. The instrumental break is awesome and Tarja's vocals after that break are my favourite. However I never liked the first 2 minutes of GSL, it drags on a bit. Whereas TPATP immediately grabbed my attention musically, GSL took quite awhile to grow on me, and it was ages before I listened to the whole and adored it.

I probably prefer GSL lyrically. I love TPATP's lyrics, as they are very personal, but GSL flows very well lyrically.

Vocally, as I said, it's a tie. Tarja is amazing in this song, and I think Anette is equally amazing in TPATP. They both do their jobs extremely well. Sadly, no Marco in GSL, but I completely understand why - he would overwhelm the mood of the song. GSL is very light, airy and almost has a bittersweet feeling to it - happiness, sadness, longing, etc. Whereas TPATP is extremely dark, moody, angry and sad - GSL is much more light-hearted sounding, even though it might not necessarily be a "happy" song.

Anywho, there's my two cents worth. ;)

  6. Bleergh, Can't stand Emo bands like nightwish

  7. The Poet and The Pendulum

    Lyrically

EDIT: Oh and may I ask you something.  What exactly is the song "The Poet and The Pendulum" actually talking about?  It sounds like a cool song though.

EDIT: Ah, ok.  That makes sense.  Maybe I will read that book also, now that you have gotten my attention lol.

  8. I have already heard The Poet and the Pendulum and it's a good song. Haven't heard Ghost Love Score. Edit.

EDIT: Well, I don't know. Both are good but I just can't remember anything from Ghost Love Score so it doesn't rest in my head. This means that I prefer The Poet and the Pendulum... But maybe after a few more listens..

  9. I like The Poet And The Pendulum, the beginning is teh Epiczors.

  10. good question, I always compare these songs since they are both "epic" songs with the different singers.

Personally I would say GLS is my favourite..It seems to flow better as a song and I like the symphonic components better.  I do like the section of The Poet and The Pendulum at about 7:20 when the tempo really picks up....have to head bang when I hear that  :)

My favourite Nightwish song has to be The Pharaoh Sails To Orion...arguable their "heaviest" song...and pretty epic as well
