  2. I have the Nike+ iPod system, but I have read about the sport band. It uses the same shoe sensor, which can be attached to any shoe with a special pocket that clips or is velcro-attached to the laces of non Nike+ shoes. The sensor is small, about the size of an adult thumb, but thinner like a thumb drive.

The accuracy of the sensor has been +/- 5% for me. You can calibrate the Nike+ iPod whenever you want, so I hope you can do the same for the sport band. The sensor is less accurate on hills than flat runs.
