I'm attending a Nike Tennis Camp for the first time this summer and I'm trying to find information about it like the schedule and things like that. Is there anyway I can get that stuff (btw I'm already registered)? And maybe if someone knows what you do on the first day if you've been before? Thank you!!!!

  1. i was thinking about doing one, and i was looking at this magazine thing we got.

on the first day you just get settled in,

but the rest of the days go like wake up at 7:30, breakfast, warm up, tennis instruction, break, tennis instruction, lunch, actual playing, then extra help or swimming, then dinner, and some evening activity. you go to bed at like 10?

let me know how it goes! :]

  2. well,

    i have never been there

    but i've heard stuff:

you get up really early and warm-up

    train till about noon,

    go swimming,m

    have lunch,

    matches (friendly)

    more training,

    and evening activities

    ...

  3. oh just go to the website ussportscamps.com<tennis< camp locations< and search and find your camp there should be a schedule

  4. I went to a Nike camp a few years back.  I loved it.

Be prepared to play a lot.  We played at least four hours every day.  And most days had 6 hours of court time.  Unfortunately, I went during a week that was unseasonably hot (over 90 every day), but I still had fun.  There was also a lot of off-court training.  We went over strategy, training, eating, match preparation, etc.  Lots of good information.

Now, I don't remember exactly what we did on the first day, but I remember the general way things worked.  At the beginning of the week (probably the first day, possibly into the morning of the second), you are divided into age groups.  Those groups will do some drills and basic skills assessments, in order to group students more or less by ability.  You spent a lot of time playing matches against people in your skill group.  But many of the other general drills and games we did had everybody mixed up.  That way, the less advanced students get to play with better people.

Later in the week, they split us into teams.  Each team had people from all skill levels, to keep things fair.  Then, we had a team contest, just for fun.

Something that they won't necessarily tell you, but they are doing it, is the fact that they are actually keeping records of your progress.  Don't let this scare you or anything, it's actually kinda cool to see how much you improve in that week.  At the end of the week, they give you a sheet with evaluations of your abilities at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week.  And other general comments and advice about your game and how you can improve.

I would definitely say that it's worth it.  I went in that week with no confidence in my backhand.  After that week, I was pretty consistent with it.  Now, my backhand has developed into a good weapon.  I also improved my serve a lot during that week.  And my general confidence in my skills went up.  I hope you can have as good an experience at your camp as I had at mine.  Have fun!

Oh, a couple tips:  Bring multiple water bottles.  Have enough shorts to last the week (I only brought three pair, and they were pretty rank by the end of the week).  I'd say that one pair per day you'll be playing will be fine.  Also, it's best to go to this thing with at least two racquets.  Don't panic if you don't have two, they will restring your racquet, and somebody will have a spare you can borrow.  It just makes things smoother to have a back up of your own.  And have some sunblock and a hat/visor/sunglasses.  They will help a lot if you get hot, sunny weather like I had.

  5. i'm going to a nike tennis camp this year too! where are you going? i'm going to duke. but anyways you can basically just go to ussportscamps.com and find your camp and they will have a schedule listed. unless yours is like mine and it doesn't have a schedule there. but i went to one last year too so i can kind of generalize what will happen. on the first day you'll get checked in and meet the person you're rooming with and just get settled in. then they will have everyone meet either on the tennis courts or in a lobby sort of area and split you into groups based on either your age or skill level. it varies from camp to camp. then you'll play some tennis. probably about 2-3 hours the first day. after that you'll have some recreation time and obviously time to eat dinner. after that usually for the rest of the week you'll play about 4-6 hours of a tennis a day and have breaks in between. hope this helped!

  6. The camps are usually at a college, so the first day is just checking in, getting your room, meeting people, and general stuff like that.

You will play tennis. A lot.  But the camp will have breaks and you will get to do other stuff too.  My camp went to the mall one night, the movies another, and swam a lot.  The Nike Camps website should have a sample schedule.
