Nike and Lance Armstrong alliance comes to an end
Nike has terminated Lance Armstrong’s contract after receiving convincing evidence by USADA which states that the cyclist used unfair means to enhance his performance during his career.
The firm cleared its stance by ending its associations with the former Team US Postal leader stating that the evidence is compelling enough to terminate Armstrong’s contract.
It briefed in a statement, “Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him”.
Nike stated that it can never overlook the use the drugs for an improved performance by any means and it has always condemn such incidents.
As many as 26 cyclists recorded their statements against Lance with a 1000 page report pointing on the fact that the cyclist doped during the heights of his career, the time when he secured as many as seven Tour de France overall victories, 1999-2005.
As many as 11 out of 26 cyclists are his former teammates and their testimony is the main basis of the case.
Frankie Andreu, Michael Barry, Tom Danielson, Tyler Hamilton, George Hincapie, Floyd Landis, Levi Leipheimer, Stephen Swart, Christian Vande Velde, Jonathan Vaughters and David Zabriskie all gave the written testimonies against Armstrong.
The disgraced American announced that he is stepping down as a chairman of Livestrong Cancer Charity that he established during his prime.
"This organization, its mission and its supporters are incredibly dear to my heart," Armstrong said in a statement issued by Livestrong.
"Today therefore, to spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship".
"My family and I have devoted our lives to the work of the foundation and that will not change. We plan to continue our service to the foundation and the cancer community”.
Current Vice Chairman, Jeff Garvey has been elected as the new Chairman of the Livestrong association as confirmed by Armstrong himself.
WADA has also disqualified Armstrong from all his victories through 1999-2012 which include several first place finishes including seven overall victories at the Tour de France as the jury is convinced that the 41-year-old used performance enhancing drugs
for over a decade during his professional career.
