Nike+Human Race...?

I really want to do that Nike+Human Race but i am not able to get to one of the four cities in the US that they are holding them at.So me and my friend are gonna run the 10K in our town....thats an option if you cant get to one of the four cities. so we are gonna run in out town.but how do we help? like i dont understand how we would make a difference or raise money for the cause or what ever.so can you please help me understabd this better?
