Niki Lauda: Vettel capable of challenging Schumacher’s record of seven title wins – Formula 1 news
Niki Lauda, former Formula 1 driver, has stated that Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel has all the potential to put Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world championships wins at threat.
The 24-year-old German just won the 2011 world championship, which made him the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to win two title wins in a row.
So far, no driver has been able to beat the 42-year-old German driver’s record. However, the German has all the talent to challenge Schumacher. Vettel has proved with his impeccable and outstanding performance that he is surely the best driver and the team
that he drives for has a clear technological edge over all the other teams.
The RB7 has no doubt been the fastest car in the ongoing 2011 season, a fact which is evident from Vettel’s consistently powerful performance on the tracks, with 6 wins and 12 pole positions.
Vettel has been lucky to have a team that has a competent and technical staff.
The 62-year-old Austrian, Lauda said, “If you choose the wrong car or the car you are driving doesn't work, then you can't win because it's always the combination of the two. But he certainly theoretically can win more than Schumacher if he sits at the right
time in the right car because he himself is certainly capable of it.”
Vettel is only 24 at the moment and has a long way to go. The way he has progressed in such a short span of time, speak volumes of his genius as a driver.
Lauda added, “To win the first one is always the most difficult because all your career, starting from go-karts all the way up, is years and years of work for this particular day. The second one is easier in a way because there is less pressure.”
2011 has been truly phenomenal for the German. Team’s advisor Helmut Marko is already hoping that Red Bull’s domination will continue into 2012 and it will remain unbeatable.
Let’s see if Vettel is able to keep his magic going on and whether he is successful in beating Michael Schumacher’s record or not.
