Niki Lauda asserts Sebastian Vettel has to fight really hard to defend his title – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Niki Lauda has said Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has to fight really hard to defend his title in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Vettel is presently standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 122 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is just two points behind his teammate, Mark Webber.
Although, he has been deemed as one of the most favourite drivers in this year’s championship fight. However, he has been facing difficulties in making the most out of the given circumstances in the current season.
The veteran German driver completely dominated during the preceding year as he took eleven victories. Conversely, his domination seems to be broken in this year as he has only seen able to score one grand prix victory at the Bahrain International Circuit
in Sakhir.
Furthermore, he struggled with finding his true potential and faced some issues in the car’s setup due to which he couldn’t score the desired points in many races.
It will be important to mention that he almost won the European GP after dominating throughout the weekend, contrarily, his alternator gave him away during the final lap of the race and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari eventually took victory.
Lauda has asserted that if the defending champion wants to win the championship battle, he has to push really hard.
“That’s logical. Last year he had a huge advantage with his car. Now, in every race, he is having to fight like a donkey in order to stay in touch. And the stress level is higher,” said Lauda.
“All the top teams are closer together, as we saw in Budapest last time. I expect it to stay like that and I hope that Red Bull and McLaren can exploit their full potential,” the Austrian driver added.
Over and above, let’s see how the two-time world champion performs after the August break.
Additionally, the three-time world champion expressed his delight on attending the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London.
“I watched the Olympics from the opening to the closing ceremony,” he said, “and loved it. An Olympic Games could not have gone better.”
