Niki Lauda claims Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel not a points ‘hoarder’ – Formula 1 news
Former three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has recently hailed the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel by stating that the young German is not a points ‘hoarder’ and that he himself refused to follow Vettel’s example.
Since the Red Bull Racing driver drove the Italian Grand Prix quite competitively and made a risk-taking overtaking manoeuvre on Fernando Alonso, Lauda believes that Vettel has proved his worth. He said that making such moves keeping in mind the current
championship situation was quite brave.
“Any other driver would have tackled this race strategically with the championship standings constantly in mind. Many points without risk' -- that is the all-too-logical motto that I have used in similar situations. But, no, Vettel has proved with his killer
instinct and aggressiveness that he is a true racer, not a points-hoarder,” said Lauda.
The 2010 Formula 1 world champion has really outdone himself this year as he is currently leading the rest of the drivers by over 100 points and catching up with him in the championship is nearly impossible.
The only way his rivals can catch up with him is if he retires out of at least 3 races in the remaining 6 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season which is quite unlikely to happen. Vettel is currently the most consistent driver on the grid with no retirements
at all.
Helmut Marko also stated recently that the reigning world champion’s run at the Italian Grand Prix was a masterpiece.
“Driving safe races is not our philosophy. We are always on full attack and new parts are already going out to Singapore,” Marko told formula1.com.
Nevertheless, RBR are leading the constructors’ championship quite comfortably as well and one has to admit that they are quite clearly the best team on the grid this year by a mile.
The RB7 is one of the most innovative cars on the grid as it has the capability of performing at the limit at almost all sorts of circuits.
