Niki Lauda claims Sebastian Vettel still favourite for the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix
Former Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has said that Sebastian Vettel is still the favourite for a victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix despite the fact that the team has failed to win since the past two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“If normal temperatures prevail, and if everything goes to plan, then yes, he (Sebastian Vettel) is the clear favourite. He still has a big gap in the standings. He need not worry,” Lauda told the media.
He stated that Sebastian Vettel is still on the right track and that he still has the championship clearly in his sight. Vettel is currently leading the championship by 216 points with a 77-point lead over his closest rivals.
Other than that, Red Bull Racing are expected to perform at their best this coming weekend since the RB7 is very good on tight tracks. As a result, it seems that they are the favourites for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
Besides that, one has to admit that Red Bull have the fastest car for qualifying at least and since their car is very reliable, they have the ability to score good results consistently as a result of which, Vettel can easily maintain his lead and win the
title this year.
The two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso also stated that the titles are still in Red Bull’s reach at the moment and defeating them is going to be quite difficult.
“We did very well in Britain, McLaren won in Germany, but Red Bull is always on the podium, if not with one driver then the other. They are good on all circuits, so in Hungary they will be competitive. We are the ones who must make further progress,” the Spaniard
told the media.
Nevertheless, we can expect anything to happen in Formula 1 and if Sebastian Vettel retires out of at least two races this season, then the championship would be wide open once again.
