Niki Lauda expects Red Bull Racing dominance in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Niki Lauda has said that he expects Red Bull Racing will dominate in 2012 F1 season after the defending champions claimed their first victory of the season in Bahrain GP.
Red Bull have won the last two championships out of which they completely dominated during the preceding year as their driver, Sebastian Vettel took 11 victories out of 20 races.
Conversely, they struggled during the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona due to the upgrades in RB8. Afterwards, they faced difficulties in finding the true pace of the car in the first few races. Nevertheless,
the veteran German driver, Vettel took the first GP victory of this season in the fourth race at Sakhir after claiming the pole.
The three-time world champion, Lauda said that the double world champion team will surely be coming up with more improvements in their car in the approaching races after the in-season test. He also expressed that he thinks Red Bull will lead the championship
in this season too.
“In Bahrain, they got the car and the tyres right for the first time, and they won,” said the Austrian. “They will have improved the car further in Mugello, so I see enormous potential for another dominant season.”
It will be important to mention that there have been many discussions that Red Bull have suffered due to the change in FIA’s rules and regulations regarding the exhaust blown diffuser. Even though, Lauda himself admitted that the past exhaust design of RB7
was the major competitive edge of the team. Nonetheless, he said that they are capable enough to beat any other contender in the front.
“Lauda acknowledged that the blown diffusers of the past seasons was Red Bull’s “great strength”, and now that is gone. Nevertheless, Red Bull is the team to beat,” he insisted.
The two-time world champions are not as confident in this season as they were in the previous one. However, they are leading the constructors’ championship in the season until now and are looking forward to perform at their best in order to defend their
title.
