Niki Lauda says Sebastian Vettel will succeed in any F1 team – Formula 1 news
Former F1 champion, Niki Lauda, has stated that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel will continue to be successful regardless of which F1 team he is driving for.
“He will eventually move somewhere else,” Lauda told CNN. “It's normal. Any skier changes his skis every year - so you have to change your cars at least once in your history. I changed my racing cars three or four times in my career and still kept on winning.
He will do something like this for sure as well.”
The former Austrian driver added that Vettel’s success was also partly due to the brilliant car designed by Adrian Newey who is the chief technical officer for Red Bull Racing. He said that Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and the retired
Michael Schumacher are all top drivers. He told that Vettel was just as good a driver as his rival Alonso but every good driver also needs a better car.
Lauda had similarly supported Vettel when the Red Bull driver had suffered a setback during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to disqualification and had to start the race from the end of the grid. Lauda had warned Ferrari at that time that they should not depend
on such situations as Red Bull is quick to learn from mistakes.
Just like before the final race of the season in Brazil last weekend, even now most people are of the opinion that Alonso was the deserving driver to win the championship. Alonso had led the championship grid most of the season but later on Vettel took the
lead from him as he won four consecutive races starting from Singapore and ending his streak in Abu Dhabi.
Just like Lauda, Alonso thinks that Ferrari needs a quicker car next season in order to win the title. He said that they had clearly lacked in qualifying pace this year.
On the other hand, Vettel thinks that repeated success doubles the pressure and it is becoming harder to win each year. The Red Bull team has admitted that this was definitely a tough and long season even if they won the constructors’ title in the end.
