Niki Lauda terms blown diffuser episode during 2011 British Grand Prix as a farce – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 World champion Niki Lauda has said that the whole episode during the British Grand Prix regarding the off-throttle blown diffusers was just a big farce.
The officials of the sport have been criticised highly for making changes to the rules in the middle of the season. In 2010, McLaren introduced the F-duct but the officials did not do anything about that.
“Why change the rules in the middle of a season? The crucial thing is that absolutely no one was protesting, the practice (of exhaust blowing) was tacitly accepted by all the teams. Suddenly the FIA and Charlie Whiting had the idea to change the rules in
the middle of the season. I personally don't understand it,” said Lauda.
The three-time former world champion claims that the incentive of the officials behind this rule change is completely pointless and many claim that it is just a scheme against Red Bull Racing’s current dominance in the sport.
“If that was so, it would be the greatest insolence. You can not punish someone just because he is better,” he said.
However, now the officials of the sport have decided to shift back to the rules and regulations which were being used at the European Grand Prix as a result of the teams’ unanimous decision.
These rule changes are doing nothing but creating confusion amongst the fans and the teams of the sport as they are just making Formula 1 more complicated than it has ever been before.
Many analysts argue that if a team outthinks the rest of the pack, like Red Bull Racing have done in the ongoing 2011 season, it is unfair on part of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to take actions which might hamper their pace. It is argued
that whoever performs better, they should be allowed to continue to do that.
Let’s see how the upcoming German Grand Prix fares in Nurburgring on July 24, 2011.
