Niki Lauda tips Lewis Hamilton to follow his teammate’s example – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has recently stated that Lewis Hamilton should follow the example of his teammate Jenson Button when it comes to consistency.
“Lewis outqualifies Jenson and is the quicker driver, but in Belgium it was Jenson who finished third while Hamilton crashed out again. You can't win championships if you are crashing. Look at Sebastian Vettel, he is not making any mistakes or crashing,
and that is why he is going to win the title again this year,” Lauda told the media.
Hamilton has not been able to finish races as consistently as his teammate mainly because of his own fault as he has crashed out of a handful of races this year as well as a result of which he is now pretty much out of the drivers’ championship run.
He was running for the championship until the Belgian Grand Prix as he was around 80 points short of the championship leader Sebastian Vettel and with 8 races ahead of him, he had a chance of catching up.
Since Vettel won the Belgian Grand Prix and Hamilton retired, he fell way behind in terms of points and that is mainly because of the fact that he did not complete races and score points as a result consistently.
His teammate on the other hand has been going pretty well when it comes to consistency but he lacks pace. Both of the McLaren drivers in fact need to learn from each other’s mistakes in order to perform at their best and push each other to the limit to squeeze
out the best possible results at each venue.
“You can argue he (Vettel) has the quicker car, but just look at Jenson and Lewis. They have the same car but it is Button who is leading him in the championship. That is because he is getting the car home and scoring points,” said Lauda.
With just 7 races now, McLaren will be hoping to get over with the 2011 Formula 1 season and probably come up with a better car for the 2012 Formula 1 season as soon as possible.
